Innovation Catalyst @ Tennis Australia
Machar Reid was appointed Innovation Catalyst at Tennis Australia in 2015. Prior to this appointment, Machar served as Tennis Australia’s inaugural High Performance Manager and Sport Science & Medicine Manager from 2008 to 2014. During this time, his expertise and leadership established a much-envied performance pathway which reasserted Australian tennis onto the international stage. In his current role, Machar leads the Tennis Australia Game Insight Group or GIG on a mission to challenge the sport’s conventional wisdom and status quo. In only its infancy, GIG has already overseen the creation a new prizemoney model for professional tennis, the sport’s first ever Racket Room, the first new international tour in three decades and the release of the most comprehensive suite of new tennis statistics since the 1980s. This step change has been accelerated through the depth of Machar’s relationships with key strategic industry partners and has also led to his appointment as a strategy advisor to the International Tennis Federation in 2017. In the intensely competitive world of tennis, Machar ranks as one of its preeminent thoughtleaders and most innovative voices. His long list of achievements is like few others, having coached and trained high profile stars, established peerless sport science expertise and led high performance teams to acclaimed success. He is the most widely published scientist in tennis, having authored 12 books, 20 book chapters, more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and a coaching curriculum that is now delivered in over 80 countries in the world. Machar holds an MBA (Deakin University), a PhD in Biomechanics (UWA) and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Victoria University.
